Flags at half-mast in recognition of residential school discovery

Posted On Friday June 25, 2021

Thames Valley’s thoughts go out to Cowessess First Nation and Indigenous Peoples following the announcement of 751 unmarked graves on the grounds of the former Marieval Indian Residential School in Saskatchewan. This is another reminder of the truth about the genocide against Indigenous Peoples.

In recognition of the 751 who lost their lives, flags at the Education Centre and all Thames Valley schools will be lowered to half-mast until further notice.

Thames Valley has school mental health professionals available to help students and families in need. Please contact your school administrator about available mental health services.

TVDSB Cares Team of School Mental Health Professionals will be available starting July 2, Monday - Friday, 9 a.m. and 4 p.m. (weekends and holidays excluded) to support students and families. Phone 548-486-5188 or email at tvdsbcares@tvdsb.ca. Indigenous counsellors are available.

The Indian Residential Schools Survivors Society can be reached toll free at 1-800-721-0066 or 24-hour Crisis Line 1-866-925-4419, if you require further emotional support or assistance.
