Frequently Asked Questions
Where does the camp take place?
Our camp is held at Lester B. Pearson School for the Arts. This is an air-conditioned facility with dedicated art, music, dance and drama facilities. It is located at 795 Trafalgar Street in London.
Can I fax you a registration form to hold a spot for my child?
No. All registrations must be completed online.
My child would like to be in the same program/group as a friend. Is that possible?
We are not taking requests for friends or family to be grouped together. They will get to see each other during breaks and recess regardless. We try to group the ages of students together in order to provide the best camp for your child.
What are your hours of operation?
Camp runs daily from 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.. You may drop off at 8:45 and pick up by 3:15 no later please.
What are the qualifications of your camp staff?
Each program is staffed by a qualified employee of the TVDSB. Many of our camp staff members teach at L.B. Pearson during the school year.
My child is sick on a morning that they are supposed to attend camp. What should I do?
Attendance at Summer Arts is handled like any regular school day. Instructors take attendance at the start of the day, and the principal in charge verifies each child’s safety. Please help us by calling 519-452-8300 - 2 to reach the main office and leave a message when you know your child will be absent, or unusually late. This quick call means that we do not have to interrupt you at work to ensure that your child is safe!
What if my child wanted to attend two different sessions; would it be different enough?
Some campers attend both camp sessions, and enrol in two different programs. Others like to come to more than one session, and attend the same program. Since each program, in each session, has a different instructor, there will be variety in the camp day! Of course, the skills will remain the same, but the activities will be chosen by the instructor, based on areas of interest, experience, and expertise.
If my child is enrolled in more than 1 session, do they receive a t-shirt for each session?
For each session your child is enrolled, he/she will receive our original Summer Arts T-shirt.
Can I have my 2 children grouped together in the combo program when they are different ages?
We have 5 groups of campers rotating through the combination program each session, and we try to group the campers by age/grade. This grouping allows the instructor to meet the particular needs of the group, and ensures that campers are comfortable with peers.
Can switches in programs be made the first or second day of camp?
Switches can only occur if there is sufficient space in the program you would like to switch to.
My child has a medical concern or severe allergy. What do you do in a case like this?
The online registration form has a place to note if there is a medical concern or allergy we need to know about. We always try our best to make everyone’s camp experience a positive one so it is important to ensure the Summer Arts Staff are aware of important medical issues. We give this information to the staff.
How many campers are there in a program?
Depending on the age and the program, we try to keep our numbers to 20-25 campers per program.
Why do some programs recommend a certain grade level for participants?
While Summer Arts accepts campers in grades JK to eight, some programs are recommended for a particular age group. The decision to designate programs for certain ages depends on several factors. Some tasks require a certain level of maturity (e.g. using equipment safely). Perhaps there are activities in that program which demand independence (e.g. a small group of actors work on a scene). In several programs, the camper’s ability to read is critical to success (e.g. preparing a script for a production in only two weeks). Of equal importance is the comfort of the camper; being with one’s peers is so important to young people! At the end of the session, we want our campers to feel successful, and restricting some programs to older, or younger campers, is one way of ensuring a positive camp experience.
Is lunch included?
No, lunch is not included but we will have some fun treats offered throughout the week. Please pack a healthy lunch each day.
